Research Focus

Dr. Albright conducts multidisciplinary cancer research spanning the fields of epidemiology, cancer prevention, nursing, medicine, nutrition, health psychology, public health, and exercise science. She has 30 years of research experience focused on innovative strategies to promote reductions in cancer risk factors for both adults and adolescents. Her research on cancer risk factors include: dietary intake (increasing fruit/vegetables), sedentary behaviors (decrease sitting), physical activity (increase moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity), weight control/weight loss (obesity), adolescent immunizations (HPV), and the etiology of cancer risks associated with the individuals' biomarkers and the obesogenic environment. Her recent randomized clinical trials have tested the efficacy of innovative technology-driven interventions (i.e., eHealth) that included: websites, text messaging, tailored telephone counseling, and streaming videos viewed on a television connected to the internet (i.e., Google TV). Almost all of this research focused on reducing health disparities for underrepresented ethnic minorities, particularly with respect to interventions to reduce cancer risk in both healthy populations and cancer survivors. She currently is working with Epidemiology faculty on a large Program Project grant to investigate body fat distribution and the gut microbiome.
