UH Cancer Center Travel Award

What is the Travel Award?

While University-related travel is restricted during the global pandemic, we are modifying our Travel Award Program to help cover the cost of trainee participation in online conferences.

General Guidelines

  1. The UH Cancer Center Travel Award Committee will consider applications to attend virtual and online cancer-related scientific meetings, conferences, workshops and training courses.
  2. Trainees who are presenting will have priority over non-presenting co-authors of a paper being presented. Non-presenting co-authors will have priority over trainees attending as observers.
  3. Trainee may apply for funding twice per Fiscal Year. Trainee applying for a 2nd award must be first author and presenter of the abstract.
  4. Given funding limitations, an application does not guarantee support. Priorities may be given to trainees who are first authors and presenters of the abstracts. Abstract or oral presentation is accepted (official acceptance letter can be provided later).

How much will be awarded?

Funding will depend on the registration or course costs. Awards may vary depending on the conference and funding availability.

Who is eligible?

  1. Post-doctoral fellows, graduate students and undergraduate interns working on cancer related topics
  2. Mentor is a UH Cancer Center member
  3. Trainee applying for a 2nd travel award must be first author and presenter of the abstract

What are my obligations?

The awardee will be required to sign a statement confirming that he/she will attend or present at the stated conference, provide an official letter of acceptance for the conference, and submit a short post-conference report. The report should describe briefly a few high points of talks that made an impact on you and how attending the conference made a difference to your research project (e.g. feedback on your project at the poster/talk, ideas gleaned from a presentation, new collaborations, etc.).

When is the deadline?

Applicants are invited to submit their applications at least 1 month before the conference takes place. We will evaluate applications as they are received.

How do I apply?

Interested individuals must submit:

  • Application form
  • CV/resume
  • Abstract submitted to conference (if submitting an abstract)
  • Confirmation of acceptance*

*Can be submitted later
