UH Cancer Center Travel Award
What is the Travel Award?
The UH Cancer Center Travel Award will provide funding for trainees to present their cancer-related research at a peer-reviewed conference.
Who is eligible
UH Cancer Center Trainees who meet the following criteria:
- Current post-doctoral fellow, graduate research assistant or undergraduate student working on cancer-related topic
- Mentor is a UH Cancer Center member, with priority given to Full Members
- First author of a UH Cancer Center-affiliated project submitted for oral or poster presentation
- Priority is given to scientific meetings of major societies, e.g., American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), American Public Health Association (APHA), The Obesity Society (Obesityweek), American Society for Nutrition (Nutrition), American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), etc.
- Current affiliation with UH or RCUH, i.e., at least one of the conditions below applies:
- UH graduate** or undergraduate research trainee enrolled in a degree program and in good academic standing, with primary appointment at UH Cancer Center
- Post-docs who are actively employed by UH or RCUH
- Priority are trainees who have never attended a scientific meeting and those who did not receive funding during the previous academic year
- Meet the posted deadlines and allow at least 2 months before conference to allow processing of travel award. Applications can be submitted before abstracts are accepted, but funds will only be released after the receipt of the acceptance letter.
- Fall 2024 cycle: September 1, 2024
- Spring 2025 cycle: February 1, 2025
- Summer 2025 cycle: June 1, 2025

**UH graduate students are requested to apply to UH Mānoa Graduate Student Organization (GSO) Academic Enrichment Awards prior to submitting a UH Cancer Center application. The UH Cancer Center Travel Award may help defray the expenses not covered by the GSO. See UH GSO's website for complete guidelines and deadlines.
How much will be awarded?
Funding will depend on the expected travel and registration costs. Awards may vary between $1,000 to $2,000 depending on the location of the conference and availability of funds.
What are my obligations?
The awardee will be required to sign a statement confirming that he/she will attend or present at the stated conference, provide an official letter of acceptance for the conference, and submit a short post-conference report describing how attending the conference made a difference to your research project (e.g. feedback on your project at the poster/talk, ideas gleaned from a presentation, new collaborations, etc.). Submission of a peer-reviewed paper based on the conference abstract is strongly encouraged.
